APTA Announces the Fit for Practice Functional Fitness Gym at APTA CSM

As a new component of the Fit for Practice initiative, the APTA Fit for Practice Functional Fitness Gym engages forward-thinking PTs and PTAs in events that highlight advances in practice and provide a hands-on opportunity for learning to help PTs and PTAs grow and thrive in their careers. Led by bestselling author and movement specialist Kelly Starrett, PT, DPT, the APTA Fit for Practice Gym features daily workouts, lifting sessions, contests, and programming from various APTA academies and sections.

APTA Geriatrics: Implementing and Scaling HIIT for Older Adults
APTA Geriatrics currently has a work group tasked with producing a position statement and a clinical practice guideline on implementing high-intensity interval training with older adults. In the functional fitness gym, members of the task force will demonstrate how to implement and scale HIIT protocols using gym equipment in functional ways, targeted at the needs of older adults. Whether you're moving and active as part of the demonstration or engaging in the discussion, you will learn how HIIT workouts and protocols can be modified to fit your demographic of older adults and describe physiological and functional benefits older adults experience when participating in HIIT. Aviv Elor, PhD, is a passionate researcher dedicated to harnessing the capabilities of virtual reality to empower physical rehabilitation clinicians and patients.
